Under the radar rookies

  • Herbert Jones (New Orleans Pelicans) – The 2nd round pick out of Alabama has played well for the Pelicans and has become a regular starter. One notable game Jones had was against rookie big man Evan Mobley in which Jones had 26 points and 7 rebounds. Jones has also been a regular on most experts’ Top Rookie ladders.
  • Omer Yurtseven (Miami Heat) – The undrafted rookie out of the 2020 draft class, the Turkish international has been a hidden gem as of late for the Miami Heat. Over his last 10 games, Yurtseven has averaged 10.6 points per game and an outstanding 14.4 rebounds a game which is 3rd in the entire NBA over that span.

Young rising stars

  • Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers) – With the saga over whether Ben Simmons will play for the 76ers this season, Tyrese Maxey has benefited the most as he has taken over the starting point guard position in Simmons absence. This season, the 2nd year player is averaging 16.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists a game which is all double from his rookie season.

  • Jordan Poole (Golden State Warriors)- One of the candidates for Most Improved Players of the Year, Poole has had a great season for the first-place Golden State Warriors. Poole is averaging a career-best 17.4 points per game and has had multiple 30-point games this season.

  • Tyler Herro (Miami Heat)- After what somewhat of a disappointing sophomore season, Herro has had a career-best season and has shown what most fans have been waiting for after his great performances in the playoffs in his rookie season. Coming off the bench most of the time, Herro has averaged 20.6 points per game and should be in the running for 6th Man of the Year.

  • Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies)- It is no secret how talented Morant is, but the 3rd year guard has taken the next step on his super star status. Morant has averaged 24.7 points per game and has led the Grizzlies to 4th in the Western Conference standings. It would be very surprising if Morant does not earn his first career All-Star appearance this season.
